TASMANIAN DIVISION

The GVRHA-TD or Tasmanian Reining Group was formed in 2009 when a dedicated group of Tasmanian Reiners decided that Tasmanians shouldn’t miss out on the fastest growing and one of the most fun equestrian sports in the world.   To make reining happen in Tasmania we joined with the GVRHA in Victoria to ensure the appropriate framework, insurance and most importantly the links to Reining Australia and the American National Reining Horse Association.

Reining is a western riding competition where riders guide their horses through a precise pattern of circles, spins and stops.  Don’t let the western bit fool you, we have entry opportunities for all levels of rider with any type of safe equipment, including show classes.

Reining is not a breed specific competition nor does your horse have to be registered with a breed society (unless you are competing in events at AQHA approved shows).

The Rule Book says:
“To rein a horse is not only to guide him, but also to control his every movement. The best reined horse should be willingly guided or controlled with little or no apparent resistance and dictated to completely.”

Wouldn’t we all like to be able to say we can do that with our horses? The Tasmanian Reining Group is here to assist you develop your horsemanship skills whilst at the same time allowing opportunities to participate in one of the most fun and exciting equine sports in the world!

To watch Reining at its best follow the You Tube links to see what reining is about!

To get started we would first suggest that you contact the Convenor or Deputy Convenor and talk to them about getting started in the sport. See Information below.

Join the GVRHA ($50 per rider, $35 per youth) and enjoy the benefits! (2011 prices)
To be covered for all events you can join the GVRHA by using the link blow, going to the Forms page and printing and forwarding the Tasmanian Division membership form to the address provided.

For those wanting to try out the sport you can do a day membership for $10 (2011 prices). This enables you to participate in an event to see whether Reining is for you or if you only have time for limited participation.

The GVRHA-TD has a variety of activities to suit different levels and interests all around the State. The activities go from Official Shows, through Clinics and informal shows and Club Days

The Tasmanian Reining Series is a set of three shows which starts in October each year and concludes in March with our major show the Tasmanian Reining Spectacular. The Spectacular has significant prizes.

The results of the Tasmanian Reining Series is also the competition from which the GVRHA-TD’s annual Hi-Point Awards are won. There are high points for all levels of competition.

You have to be in it to win it!
